How to Use Spells to Control Fire

Spells to control fire have really grown in popularity of late, but possibly in part for the wrong reasons. Maybe people are forgetting the childhood saying of ‘don’t play with fire’! Fire is beguiling because of its allure, its beauty and its unstoppable power. It brings the cosiness of a log fire, the romance of candlelight through to the destruction of a raging fire out of control. So while I’m sure it doesn’t need to be said, remember that fire is one of the 5 elemental powers of the universe and should be respected and honoured as such. All good spells to control fire will have safety and moderation at heart.

However, Wicca and witchcraft do invoke the power of the natural elements of the universe regularly so in this sense using spells to control fire is acceptable as part of your spell work as long as you stay within certain boundaries. It is after all, a force and an energy and therefore can be harnessed and channelled as any other.

So what’s the first spell to control fire you should try? Start with a small but very exciting spell, using a candle, to try to control the flame. This is a matter of focusing the mind as much as anything but is a perfectly safe and yet effective place to start. Prepare yourself in order to get into a relaxed state of mind so that you are open and ready to ‘become one’ with the flame. Avoid any distractions so it is best to try this when you are on you own. Don’t get freaked if you have some success though! You should try to make the flame do certain things such as dim or flicker. If you succeed, try again to prove to yourself that it is you that is causing the change and not, for instance, a breeze in the room.

Having successfully done your first spell to control fire, you will want to move on to something more advanced. For this there are many variations that you can turn to so try it with different objects to see if any suit you best. You will need to represent the other elements so place a container or chalice of water, some salt and either light incense or place a feather in your work space. Then, take a candle, a match or ignitable object. Focus on the object by using silent contemplation or by chanting in order to build energy. Visualise the heat building – you can fix your gaze on the object or close your eyes and keep its image firmly in your mind. Your initial aim will be to create enough energy to feel noticeable heat in the object if not a flame. It takes a lot of skill and practise to achieve but it’s worth it!

As mentioned above, fire is to be respected and handled with caution. For some it has devastating effects on their lives, so I am including a protection spell for your home alongside the spells to control fire. It is simple and quick but will show the higher powers that you are humbled by fire’s power. You will need a candle and a large container of water (your cauldron is perfect if you have one):

Light the candle. Imagine the outside of your house being protected by a blue field of energy. You should picture this energy as having the stillness of water but with the strength to act as a buffer around your home (picturing a moat can also help).

Say:

‘May the essence of the force of fire return to its core.

Blend with the elements and I shall honour thee forever more.’

Then submerge the candle in the water to put out the flame. If you see any smoke arise, take a moment to observe it.

This will not take long but will show your recognition of fire as an essential element and that you value its contribution to the universe. Similarly, you are not invoking its power to cause harm and damage and respectfully ask that it is kept at a distance.

My parting advice – many people want to try out spells to control fire as some kind of a power rush so if you suspect that this is part of your motivation then I urge you to think twice. Remember the Wiccan 3 fold law, that whatever you do will come back to you 3 times as powerful so do not do this for selfish or destructive purposes.

Otherwise, have fun and use your spells to control fire wisely!
